Homelike Bathroom Furnishings

The CHSLD Ernest-Brisson wanted to improve the decoration of a bathing room for residents with cognitive disorders, a clientele for whom bath time can sometimes be stressful. By furnishing the room to make it more homelike, residents can enjoy this type of care in a much more normal environment.

Previously, the all-white, neon-lit bathing room gave off a distinctly cold and “health establishment” impression. The team wanted to personalize it and make it more inviting to provide the residents with a calm and reassuring environment. Thanks to the Foundation’s financial support, the following improvements were made:

• – Added a dimmer switch for dimming the lights;
• – Added decorations reminiscent of a house’s bathroom;
• – Added homelike furniture;
• – Added a free-standing mirror;
• – Added a sound system to play background music;
• – Added an aromatherapy system;
• – Added a side cabinet to store care equipment and linen;

• – Provides an environment that reminds residents of familiar memories, instills calm, promotes self-esteem and restores a greater sense of normalcy;
• – Enables better management of disruptive hygiene behaviours;
• – Improves the residents’ attitude towards this type of care and facilitates collaboration with patients affected by cognitive disorders.
