La Pietà is a long-term care facility housing over 150 people. These improvements will allow residents to enjoy some outdoors rest, socializing and gardening activities as a way to maintain their autonomy.
Since common areas are the main gathering places in CHSLDs, they play a major role in the daily lives of residents. In order to make this space a pleasant and stimulating living environment, the Gatineau Health Foundation partnered with the Forget For a Moment Foundation to finance the construction of a “living wall” covered with greenery and flowers at the CHSLD Lionel Émond.
L The same type of initiative, which has been shown to have beneficial effects, has also been carried out in another CHSLD in the region. The new living wall will help foster a more soothing and welcoming environment while providing a taste of nature for residents all year round.

Several research studies have shown that living in an environment containing vegetation increases the likelihood of experiencing the following benefits: reduced psychological and physiological stress, improved ability to concentrate, improved mental health, reduced mental fatigue and improved performance in cognitive tasks.
