Quantitative analysis of knee locomotion and fitness following arthroplasty

With the financial support of the Foundation, theGatineau Hospital Rehabilitation Centre was able to carry out a research project aimed at optimizing the functional recovery CISSS patients in the Outaouais region receiving knee arthroplasty.

The research project, entitled Analyse quantifiée de la locomotion, conditionnement physique et arthroplastie du genou (Quantitative Analysis of Knee Locomotion and Fitness Following Arthroplasty), proposed the implementation of a new rehabilitation program based on motor patterns, as well as a three-dimensional quantified motion analysis.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE HERE AT HOME

The results of the study showed, among other things, an increase in patients’ willingness to engage in physical activity. Many of them also purchased training equipment to stay active at home. Interestingly, the research team even noted a renewed enthusiasm for physical activity among accompanying persons, such as spouses and children.

The changes observed by the medical staff during the study showed that the structure adopted as part of the research project was able to alleviate a lack of physical fitness, which was suspected to be largely responsible for various movement disorders humans face in our modern societies.
