Each year, Les Rêves de Monique’s hardworking committee organizes a high-profile and emotionally charged fashion show that puts the spotlight on breast cancer survivors, local clothing stores and incredible artists, singers and volunteers. In 2020, the committee made the difficult decision to cancel the event. due to serious concerns for the health and safety of survivors, at-risk individuals, volunteers, technicians and audience members — some of which have supported our campaign for 12 years.
In spite of this, Les Rêves de Monique’s team is adopting new strategies to maintain its fundraising commitments in the hopes of reaching its goal of $75,000. As we all know, cancer never rests, so the fight must continue.
This year, some great new features will be introduced, such as short vignettes featuring cancer survivors and fighters, as well as an online virtual auction. We invite you to follow Les Rêves de Monique’s Facebook page for more details and breaking news about other great initiatives that will be announced soon.
The benefits from this 12th edition of Les Rêves de Monique will fund a software upgrade project for the CISSS de l’Outaouais’s pathology laboratory. The pathology laboratory of the CISSS de l’Outaouais is the laboratory where all patients’ specimens (biopsies and surgical parts, for example) are sent in order to identify the presence or absence of cancer. In cancer, pathologists determine the type of cancer, its stage and the various factors that will influence the prognosis and treatment of the cancer. The laboratory’s work is therefore a fundamental part of care management for cancer patients. Upgrading to the Diamic software will save a considerable amount of time by optimizing current resources and increasing the technical team’s productivity.
“The impact on patients is what drew me to this project — especially when it comes to reducing waiting time for results. I personally had to wait four days after my routine consultation with my doctor before being told I had cancer and needed surgery quickly. Those four days felt like an eternity because I was in deep pain. But even worse, I know people who have waited weeks, even months, for their results! I can’t imagine what they must have gone through. Reducing this stress for patients would be a big step forward.”
