To celebrate its 30thanniversary, the Gatineau Health Foundation is creating its first ever order of special recognition for its supporters, the Order of Patrons of the Gatineau Health Foundation. Membership will be reserved exclusively for individuals or companies that have contributed a minimum of $1 million in various forms of support over the years, including through sponsorships, philanthropic donations or participation in Gatineau Health Foundation fundraising activities. The creation of this new order is a direct result of the numerous shows of generosity by the people and businesses in our region.
Maurice Marois has steered his company for almost 60 years. Over the years, his passion for success and his determination have taken him to greater and greater heights. Mr. Maurice Marois has supported the Foundation since 1996, both personally and through his respected Outaouais business. He has taken part in various public events over the years, whether by buying tickets or supporting people who faced challenges for the benefit of the Foundation. In 2003 he made his first important gesture, with a $50,000 donation (pledged over five years) in support of the “pour un hôpital en santé !” campaign. An exemplary donor, his generosity, has made it possible to purchase several pieces of equipment necessary for better care in our community, such as a gamma camera for the Hull Hospital, the most technologically advanced type of device in this field and the first in Canada to be used in nuclear medicine. An impressive pilot project to implement EVAR technology for abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery was also made possible by Mr. Marois, as was the purchase of an endobronchial ultrasound, an important piece of equipment for the new respirology clinic. Not only have the accomplishments of this admirable philanthropist over the past few years been useful and appreciated by the patients, they have also given an uplifting boost of energy to the medical staff. His great generosity is an example to all of us, and the Foundation feels very fortunate to have such a great patron at its side.
Mr. Gilles Desjardins , president of Brigil and distinguished citizen of the region, has done an exceptional gift of $500,000 to the Gatineau Health Foundation. Following this gift, his contribution toward the Foundation will amount to nearly 1.3 million, the largest sum ever devoted since its creation. This great friend of the Foundation that supported us already for over 20 years by his generosity, deserves our admiration. This gift of $ 500,000 is a way of thanking the Gatineau population who allowed him to succeed in business. Mr. Desjardins sincerely believes that a healthy community contributes to the success and dynamism of the people of the same community.
As a tribute and thanks for this gesture of exceptional generosity, a dedication for life will be affixed on the building as well as the recognition plate installed inside the Gatineau Hospital Cancer Centre.
Ms. and Mr. Bourdeau are loyal and loyal major donors and contribute annually to the Gatineau Health Foundation. Early in his career, Mr. Bourdeau considered taking over the family farm, but instead decided to turn to retail. The Outaouais business community has therefore greatly benefited from Mr. Bourdeau’s contribution to the economic development of our region. During his long career with Canadian Tire, Mr. Bourdeau has followed a path of which he can be proud both as an employee and store owner in the Hull sector, as well as in key positions at the Canadian Tire Company. Rhéal Bourdeau and his team have understood the needs of consumers in the Outaouais and responded to them by offering world-class service. Mr. Bourdeau’s involvement went well beyond his duties at Canadian Tire since he was, among others, a member of the Board of Governors of the Outaouais Chamber of Commerce and Industry and thus played a role important for the economic development of our region. Family values and close ties with their family members have always been a priority for Ms. and Mr. Bourdeau. This is the reason why Ms. Bourdeau made the wise and honorable choice to devote her life to the well-being of her family. For more than 30 years, Ms. and Mr. Bourdeau have generously supported the Gatineau Health Foundation because the quality of care offered here is very important to them. Their decision to allocate their donations to priorities highlights their great impact on improving health care in the Outaouais, since this makes it possible to meet urgent needs by ensuring the funding of priority initiatives.
Mr. Ernest Lafortune has made the largest donation in the Foundations history, becoming the first to give $1 million. In its dealings with Mr. Lafortune, the Foundation team came to know the man behind the amazing success of Margarine Golden Gate-Michca. This individual, instilled with the values of respect, hard work and vision, is an extremely generous family man. A native of Pointe-Gatineau, he is proud to give back to the community in which he has lived his whole life.
In recognition for his outstanding commitment, the new Gatineau Hospital emergency wing has been named in honour of Mr. Lafortune and his wife Dorilda Leduc. This dedication will be permanent, as will the recognition plaque in the ER.
To optimize its impact on the health and well-being of the Outaouais population, the Choquette-Legault Foundation has pledged $1,000,000 to support the Fondation Santé Gatineau in several optimization and acquisition projects.
